Nick and the Sun Machine

Nick and the Sun Machine are a four piece folk/pop/rock band from St Albans, Hertfordshire. Their music is a diverse mixture of challenging and melodic, electric and acoustic, switching between blistering hard rock one minute to intricate folk balladry the next.

This unique concoction of progressive yet approachable music is brought together by the band’s powerful and distinctive four-part harmonies giving the songs a sense of unity amongst the various musical styles.

With an array of eclectic compositions at their disposal (by front man Nick Stephenson) and innovative arrangements provided by the rest of the band, Nick and the Sun Machine are gaining serious momentum and are headed in exciting new directions after a busy 12 months. They have launched an album and an acoustic EP, supported by the million selling Toploader and have performed at various UK festivals including Standon Calling, Wilkestock, Folk by the Oak and very recently the Isle of Wight Festival.

The Rockin Furys

Hailing from Croxley green we started out as a three piece in July 1986 rehearsing in a friends shed, much to the annoyance of his non-rocking neighbours, we decided to move onto a local studio. A fourth member was soon added and we got our first gig at the Clay Pigeon in Eastcote. I remember we took the train which was about a mile from the venue it must have been a site walking with a double bass drums and guitars. We played many gigs over the years, mainly pubs and clubs including St Albans’ legendary The Horn of Plenty (now called The Horn). We had our first record released on a compilation album called Taken by Force, the song She’s Hot on fury records.

We take traditional Rockabilly songs and some more up to date tunes and do them our way. Our final gigs were played as a three piece around 1991-1992 when the band disbanded. After 20 years the band has decided to do a reunion gig or two, we’ve played The Horn and the Flag amongst others and are loving it again, getting the chance to play Croxfest is awesome, as this is where it all started all those years ago.

Digital Doctor

Digital Doctor are an Electro/Experimental/Pop/Rock trio who have several pop songs under their belt.

The band was formed by Dorian Graze bassist/synth player Ian Jowett and Carnival singer Sarah Perry in early 2012. Initially intended as songwriting project the duo formed the band. Having written several demo snippets (mainly electronic) the pair were joined by Dorian Graze guitarist Steve Woodley in late 2012. The band’s first gig was held at the Eight Bells, Hatfield in May 2013 followed by the ‘Digital Doctor EP’ a month later. The band are currently working on new material.

Poke

Poke are a busy five piece covers band based in the Cambridge area. Whilst the majority of their gigs are private functions and corporate events, Croxfest will be their fourth festival gig of 2014. They’re really excited about Croxfest as guitarist Matt lived in Croxley Green for many years and went to school locally.

Their set-list is varied and it’s guaranteed that you’ll already know most of their songs, but they like to play something a bit different to set them apart. Listen out for some 80’s New Wave, some classic 70’s dance grooves, something anthemic and something downright funky!

In the past few years they have performed at festivals across the UK including Rickmansworth Canal Festival, the Acoustic Festival of Britain, Lakefest and Lechlade alongside artists such as Fairport Convention, Paul Young, The Kaiser Chiefs and James.
